Gleaning

Print Friendly

Surplus in the Fields- after the farmer harvest, there is still an abundance of crops left in the field. This produce cannot be harvest commercially.

What is Gleaning?

Interfaith Ministries will organize a group of volunteers to harvest (glean) what is left in the fields in Stanislaus County. Our volunteers will glean high-quality produce that would otherwise be tilled into soil.

Who can Glean?

EVERYONE! Families, individuals, groups, or students. Children 10-15 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

Why Glean?

Volunteers help feed low income, hungry people in our community.

How long does it take?

Volunteers generally will be asked to commit to at least three hours including transportation to and from the field.

What do I need to bring?

Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes. We recommend a hat, sunscreen, and bag to take home fresh hand-picked produce. No jewelry is allowed in the fields due to safety issues.

Join us in the fight against hunger!

All fresh produce that is collected will be sorted at our facility in Modesto before being distributed to our clients that come to our food pantry and out to over 50 member congregations and organizations in our food coalition. In Stanislaus County, 20.7% of people are food insecure. 1 in 4 children go to be hungry. We live in a place where there is an abundance of fresh produce. Help us spread the wealth and feed thousands in our community.
