"Children
are the true victims of homelessness"...
Redwood
Family Center: A 75 bed facility providing a clean and
sober transitional shelter to homeless women and their children.
Experience
has shown that individuals who have completed a residential
program of recovery or have stabilized in Alcoholics/Narcotics
Anonymous need to live in a clean and sober environment in
order to maintain sobriety and recovery. Many people who leave
organized programs do not have a home to go to nor can they
afford individual housing which is recovery conducive. Cooperative
housing offers a bridge to independent living.
Supportive
services allow residents the opportunity to address obstacles
which contribute to homelessness. In collaboration with social
service and non-profit agencies in our community, GED classes,
mental and physical health services, job training, substance
abuse prevention, basic life and parenting skills training
and other needed services are provided. Staff meets with participants
on a regular basis to monitor progress and determine what
needs to be accomplished prior to successful completion of
our program.
The ultimate
goal of this program is to provide clients with the life skills
necessary to become self-supporting members of society.
The
Santa Fe Project: This 80+ bed facility will provide emergency
winter shelter to homeless families with minor children. The
project will be open from December 1, though March 31. Families
will work with a case manager to work towards the goal of
moving into permanent housing.
